ANZAC poppy

This is my poppy. I used heaps of different tools my favourite were the wood carving chisels I also used a powered jigsaw a jigsaw has a little blade that moves up and down. It got its name from a normal jigsaw puzzle because jigsaw puzzles have little curves and a powered jigsaw can turn and cut around corners just like a jigsaw puzzle piece. The hammer that i am using is called a mallet. the colours on the poppy were red from Dads phone box, green from my art box and yellow from a art picture, black from a spray can in the garage.

  1. Hi Haki
What an awesome project. I really like the way you have used a chisel to add texture to your poppy. The post you have written gives a lot of detail about how you created your poppy, well done. I also like the way you have put photos in that show your project progressed as you went along.
Do yo know when the first ANZAC day of remembrance took place? If you look on the learning site in our ANZAC unit you will find a link to New Zealand History. You will find lots of information here. I would love to see you add to this post all the information that you find out about ANZAC day.
Where do you plan to display your poppy? Is the paint suitable for it to go outside, or will you keep it inside?
I remember going to the dawn services as a child. We went to the memorial gates, I remember it being a bit cold in Southland. It is a pity that there is not going to be a ceremony here this year. I thought I would make a donation to the RSA because I can not buy poppies this year.

  6. What a fantastic project you and Dad did Haki. It is so much fun getting to try out our Dad's tools. I used to love building things with my Dad too. You have made an awesome poppy for your house. I'm hoping people will leave them out so we can have a look at them when we are allowed to drive around again.
